An Affair of the Hartsock: Excuses

I truly have negative time to watch, let alone write about, the first week of the "two week Bachelorette finale, most dramatic ever" tonight! I'm so very sorry, but I think I have some good reasons.  This week is one of the busiest of my entire summer. My dad moves to Houston on Wednesday morning so I want to be free just in case I have any extra time to spend with him before he leaves me in Oklahoma. So much sad face.  I work Monday through Thursday and leave for Vegas at 7:05 PM on Thursday evening. I'm hoping to find some time to pack on Tuesday night.  This is the last week of my online Sociology of Gender class and we have a test I need to take between Thursday morning and Friday night. I'm hoping to squeeze it in between work and leaving for the airport on Thursday. Studying will have to be done while the kids have swim practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I'll see Tyler for the last time for two weeks in Norman on Wednesday night and also need to pic...

The Year of the '92 Baby

I'm just over here counting down the days. 84 to go.  There are so many that have paved the way before me, and I'm happy for them, really, I am.  But I can't help those pangs of jealousy as I see their celebrations occur month by month.  That ever-longed for 21st birthday is in the cards in the year 2013 for any child that was born in 1992. It's our time. It's almost embarrassing how excited I am for this milestone in my life. No more asking older friends to make trips to the liquor store for me (wait, what?) or staring longingly at the drink menu in an establishment. I can grab life, and drink menus, with both hands on July 1.  I am proud to say that I never caved to the attraction of a fake ID. I would feel cheated out of my 21st to only switch ID's in a bar.  January, February, March, April....is it July yet? I'm really pining over here. Megan's already told me she has set up a secret Pinterest board to aid her in celebration planning ...

My Time

Image
I have so many plans for myself. I want it all. I want to travel, I want to learn, I want to graduate, I want to be successful, and I want to share it all with everyone.  I've recently felt so inspired to succeed. Maybe it's the presence of adversity. Whatever it is, I choose to embrace the future. Nothing is holding me back except my own insecurities. I'm not invincible, and failure is always a frightening possibility; but there's no reason why I can't try anything. "Go hard today, Can't worry about the past Cuz that was yesterday."  Present goal: Teach myself the entire "No Diggity" rap from Pitch Perfect so I can sing along to the Riff Off. Why can't A Very Lucky Girl be a Boomer Bella?

T-A-L-E-N-T. Find Out What It Means To Me.

Have you ever noticed that some people are just BORN to do something? That they have a unique talent that they have discovered and are utilizing said ability in ways to impact the world around them? You don't listen to Norah Jones sing and think, "wow, that girl woulda made a great zookeeper. It's a real shame." You don't hear Justin Buchanan speak to you as your youth pastor and ponder, "man, he really could have made a great astronaut." You don't read Miranda's  blog  and say, "She missed her calling. Dental hygienist was right up her alley." You don't view Megan's photos  and lament, "it's too bad the Jamba Juice career is over, she could swirl a Strawberry Surfrider like no other." They have all discovered what they do with unabashed excellence, and they do it to their full potential. Doing your best at something doesn't make you THE best. But excelling at your unique skill? There isn't anot...

The 5 Year Plan

In 5 years I'll be a college graduate (I can hear Paul saying don't count your chickens yet...). In 5 years I'll be 24 years old. That's all I know about my future right now. Where do I want to be in 5 years? Not in Oklahoma for starters. It would be exciting to live someplace like NYC, after all Frank Sinatra proclaims that if "I can make it there I can make it anywhere", but does that also inversely mean that if I can't make it there I can't make it anywhere? I'll find out. NYC might be too high-stress for me though, I'd be happier somewhere like North Carolina or Tennessee. I loved my years in Raleigh and Franklin.  Who will I be in 5 years? I'll have a degree in English. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to get paid to write. Maybe I'll be grading college entrance essays. Maybe I'll still be making smoothies at Jamba (I really, REALLY hope not). I almost hope that I'm not married in 5 years. I can't imagine knowing ...
