For Gracie

When I lived in North Carolina I had the privilege to babysit for this amazing all-American family. They have two gorgeous girls, Grace and Emily. It recently came to my attention via Facebook that Gracie is having trouble with some girls, at school I presume. I don't know the entire story, but I was 14 once. And I'm 19 now and the fairer sex has not really changed.


Lindsay Lohan starred in the epically mind-numbingly hilarious movie, Mean Girls. Director Tina Fey managed to send an anti-bullying message even while leaving me gasping for air through my giggles. I quote it incessantly, "why are you so obsessed with me?!"


Girls are mean. We honestly are. Our instinct is to put down the females around us in order to get a false sense of superiority. And since it's not true superiority, it is fleeting, thus the mean girls cycle is formed. We have an intense competitive nature to be the prettiest, smartest, best-all around. And when we feel that we fail at our goals, we automatically pounce on the invisible shortcomings of others to build ourselves up. 


Gracie is beautiful. I always had an amazing time babysitting her and her sister. They let me be immature and silly enough to partake in their games and I had a super fun sleepover with them last summer when I went to visit. They let me be little again and I can't thank them enough for that. I'm sad that Gracie has to grow up so abruptly because of thoughtless girls. But I have every confidence in her ability to rise above it. She has all the tools to set an example to others and not perpetuate the mean girls cycle. She has wonderful parents that can guide her through this, I have no doubt. But I just want Gracie to remember that, above all else, she is A Very loved Lucky Girl.

A Penny for Your Sin

I heard an analogy recently about sin that I wanted to share as a caution against judging others. I searched online for someone who could put it more eloquently than I, but my google search came up empty.  Imagine that every time you did something wrong, a penny was stacked against you. You lied, you cheated, you drank in excess. Those are pennies stacked against you. Then someone you know committed a more "grievous" sin, according to what some in the world may think. They partook in adultery or gave in to a harmful addiction. In our human minds, those sins deserve higher stacks of pennies. But in God's eyes, He looks down and just sees the fact you both have pennies stacked against you. He doesn't see the height of the stack the world sees. He only sees the one coin on top indicating your imperfection and need for redemeption that you share with the person who sinned "more."  Sin is not measured in degrees "None is righteous, no, not one.&qu

Bachelor Recap Week 2: Did You Hear it's Hannah B's Birthday?

In case you missed the premiere, you can catch up here . In brief, Colton sent home 6 women -- most notably a sloth. The season already tried (and failed) to be experimental with week one where they bounced between various watch parties hosted by franchise alum. In the same vein, they’ve provided Colton with his own personal GoPro so he can take shirtless videos from the comfort of his bed. It’s just as weird as it sounds. This week, we join the remaining smitten women in the infamous sunken living room where Chris Harrison drops off the first date card and then heads back to his trailer to catch up on his Tinder matches. FUN FACT: the Bachelor mansion is inhabited by a real family 10 months out of the year. When filming starts, it is emptied of all of the personal belongings and key rooms are re-painted in ONE SINGLE DAY.
