Autobiography of a Bibliophile: February 2019

February was a “light” month in terms of novel volume, but some gems were certainly uncovered. March has been mind-blowing and I hope to share those soon!! Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens 5 stars Be prepared to feel all the feels with this one. It’s our book club read for April and I’m looking forward to discussing it with some of my favorite ladies. The books covers themes from one spectrum to another: prejudice, resilience, desperation, and determination (to name just a few). You’ll be captivated by Kya and intrigued by the mystery of her life in the marsh. Swimming Pool Sunday by Madeleine Wickham 2 stars Fun Fact: Madeleine Wickham is a pseudonym for Sophie Kinsella (whose books I adore), so I was looking forward to this read. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed by the storyline and the writing wasn’t nearly as fun as the Shopaholic series. If you were considering picking this one up, stick with Becky Bloomwood and her persistent overdraft habit instead

Bachelor Recap Week Ten: It's Complicated

When we last paused Colton’s journey, he had leapt a fence into the Portuguese countryside. If Women Tell All hadn’t aired the following evening, where Colton made an appearance to face his exes, I might still think he was in Europe hiding out from ABC. Finally, Harrison directs our attention to the screens in the studio to pick back up on the Portuguese pandemonium. Dark shadows and shaky camera work fills the TV and I fumble for the remote, wondering for moment if one of the dogs switched the channel to Live PD. Dogs are barking in one direction, while production literally whistles for Colton, who has literally disappea

Last week, our fair bachelor Colton had just sent Caelynn packing in a flood of tears (hers, not his) and requested a pow-wow with Chris Harrison. His remaining trio of ladies stand awkwardly in the foyer clutching their champagne glasses and twirling their hair extensions in nervous anticipation for the upcoming fantasy suites. Colton and Harrison take up residence on the front porch. Colton doesn’t have a plan mapped out for losing his V-card, but if he is in love with someone then he can see it happening. After all, he’s been waiting for the opportunity to “make love” with someone all these years. Heaven help us, we are 3 minutes in and my ears are bleeding already.   Feeling comfortably buoyed by Harrison’s listening ear and not at all bothered by my injured pair, Colton joins the ladies in the foyer. He has so much hope for where these three relationships can go and announces Algarve, Portugal as their next destination. Cassie gazes at the ocean, hopeful it holds al
